How To Tackle Abdominal Ascites In Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patient?

My uncle who is presently suffering from hepatocellular carcinoma, has a thrombosed portal vein. His blood albumin levels are low and is now taking albumin supplements (IV). His recent problem is abdominal ascites that is recurring every two weeks for the past 1 month. How do we tackle this? Kindly put some light, allopathic/ ayurved as is appropriate.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Given his disease condition, unless he has a liver transplant should he qualify for one, these symptoms of ascites would always remain. As such, regular drainage every 2weeks would be the lone single best measure. Also, he may want to get antibiotics to prevent spontaneous bacterial infection of the ascites and reduce the risk of a possible hepatic encephalopathy.
