Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I ve been researching Suboxone for about 6 months now. I am currently a heroin user and would like to get on a Suboxone program. I have taken Suboxone in the past and I do believe it is something that can make me succesful in kicking my addiction. I currently just started a new job and won t receive insurance from anywhere 6-9 months. I don t really want to wait that long to start recovering from this addiction. I have heard though without insurance, soboxone out of pocket is very expensive, possibly more than my current addiction. Can you tell me the price differences of the Suboxone pill prescription with and without insurance. Also, what is the difference of taking the film or the pill. I took the pill in the past but I ve notice that most people I have met that are on the perscription are prescribed the film. Thank you for your time and help!
Suboxone runs about 10 dollars a dose either on the street or in the pharmacy. The film and the pill are quite similar. The film is the dominant form currently due entirely to insurance preferring to cover it. The price of being in treatment varies but typically runs upwards of 100 dollars a week.
I might mention that suboxone's main advantage is almost totally overlooked: it allows a safe context to fail at tapering with no consequences and the ability to learn from the failure (i.e., you try a lower dose of the suboxone, see what happens, and if it doesn't work out, you still have teh suboxone and you can just go back temporarily to where you were then try again another day).
