Psychiatrist 's  Response

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

I understand that you are concerned about your friend's habit of eating slate pencil. This habit of eating non-edible substances such as chalk / slate pencil is called Pica.

Pica can be due to a variety of causes, one of the most common causes being nutritional deficiency - like iron deficiency. I would suggest that you take her to a doctor for a medical examination and lab tests so that the cause can be determined and appropriate treatment can be started.

Wish you all the best.
