How To Minimise The Scars Post Circumcision?

My 9 year old son was circumcised about 8 weeks ago(medical reasons) and has healed well according to the surgeon. I asked about the lumps and puckering around the suture line and was told this sometimes happens! As there anything that can be applied/ done to minimise the scaring? Cheers

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

As per my clinical experience, the circumcision surgery is carried out with the excision of excess of the foreskin with suturing in a circumferential fashion with absorb-able suture material in form of rapid Vicryl (most common) and chronic catgut (now rarely used). Usually it takes a period of 2-3 weeks to slough off the sutures and get the best results.

Fine granulation tissue takes place within couple of weeks of surgery, if however, the scarring is of real concern, in my clinic, I do recommend an application of Neomycin cream 3 times a day after antiseptic cleansing.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
