Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm 36 years old. I quit smoking 4 months ago and I've been sick ever since. My throat hurts bad. I went to the doctor and they did the scope - said I had acid reflux. They gave me dexinant and that doesn't help. Now they want to go in and do the scope again to insert a measuring device to measure the amount of acid. I don't get it..... I quit smoking, I quit drinking pop and started drinking water and I've never felt like this before. I'm about to start smoking again. Did the smoking cover up the acid reflux? Is there another way to measure acid besides doing the scope again?
If they want pH of stomach acid then endoscopy is the only answer but I dont think it would be imperative so early as there should be atleast a trial of Proton pump inhibitors and antacid therapy before scope.
