How To Manage The Extreme Pain Caused By Pluerisy, Been Refused Painkillers?

good evening, my partners father is in hospital currently. Over the last year he has suffered with severe emphezema (if thats how it is spelt correctly). He was recently rushed into hospital with stabbing pains against his lung which has been diagnosed as Pluracy. He has been told that he has a poisionous sack of fluid inside his lung. They have put him on Morphine (quite a high dosage) for around a week (ish) and he is having it administered orally once every two hours. He is still in the same amount of pain currently but they are dropping his morphine dosage down to once every 3 hours. At the the moment he is being left for this extra hour where the pain is shooting back before his next dosage and he is screaming out in agony. He has been told not to seek outside help by his hospital to find out whats going on. We are just after some advice to see if you would say this was fair to a patient to deny him pain relief?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Since he is having emphysema, possibility of lung infection as a cause for his pleurisy is high.
So along with painkiller, antibiotic should be given tp treat infection.
If Infection is not treated properly, his pleurisy will not be subside.
So better to consult pulmonologist and start appropriate antibiotic for infection.
He can also apply warm water pad on affected site. This will reduce pain.
Deep breathing exercise and chest physiotherapy can also be tried for pain relief.
Consult pulmonologist and discuss all these options.
Don't worry, he will be alright.
