How To Lower The Dose Of Remeron Without Withdrawal Effects?

I am currently on 60 mg of remeron and doctor added about 150 mg of Zoloft which has helped me feel more like myself. I was put on remeron because I am also post op colon cancer patient going through chemo. I don' t like the way the remeron makes me feel; like a robot depersonalize from myself. Thinking of asking to lower dose of remeron to 45 mg and upping dose of Zoloft to 200 mg. I tried to up with dr. Approval last weekend but had increased anxiety. I wouldn't do anything without doctor. He doesn't think remeron is right for me either but wants to wait to change. What are your thoughts.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Rameron is Mirtazapine and the drug belongs to NASSA or Nor adrenalin selective Serotonin antagonists group. When the doses of drugs are reduced rapidly or stopped abruptly rebound increase in anxiety is seen. You are feeling bad with this drug and doses of Sertraline are being increased. On reducing the dose to 45 mg you suffered withdrawal symptoms. In normal practice the doses of Mirtazapine should be reduced by 20% every two weeks and then should be stopped completely at the end of about 6-8 weeks. Reduction of doses in this manner will not cause rebound increase in anxiety. You can discuss with your psychiatrist to reduce the doses in this manner and you will feel better.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Take care
