How To Heal Severe Throat Irritation With Cough?

Hello Doctor, I have been having throad irritation with cough (no phlegm). It started with normal cold and cough aroung 15th Jan '14. There is no cold now but I still feel as if I am sounding a bit "nasal"! However, coughing has continued since then. I consulted a local physician who said the chest is clear. I also got some blood tests done as per his advice which are all normal. I am not on any medication and only gargle in the morning and, sometimes, in the evening also. I have inhaled steam at night as well for about 4-5 days but haven't seen any improvement with any of these (gargle/steam). Pls advice.
