Dear Doctors, is it normal that pain often tends to increase in the tonsils after sleeping for about 5 hours in an air conditioned room ?? I have just woken up and my neck is paining with the area under my jaw swollen internally. Please suggest a remedy to get rid of the pain which is caused definitely by tonsilitis.
I can understand your concern. Yes, tonsillitis pain is usually more intense in the morning after the patient wakes up because of accumulated secretions in the throat and increased blood supply to the throat. It gets little better after waking up.
If you are sure that it is due to tonsillitis, you need to start antibiotic. You can take Azithromycin 500 mg (Azee 500) once a day for 3 days. You can also take over the counter available lozenges and cough drops for symptomatic relief. Acetaminophen 500 mg or Ibuprofen 400 mg can be taken for relief in pain and fever. Warm salt water gargles will also help to relieve the congestion.
However, if you do not feel better after 3 days, ENT specialist should be consulted for clinical examination and further investigations.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
