How To Ease Continually Blocked Nostrils Caused By Prolonged Smoking?

If a person has smoked heavily 30+ yrs (including from a bong) is there a risk for cancer to start because of the incision? I would like to find statistics on this. One nostril is 50% blocked (I m 64), my specialist recommended getting this done when I have medicare, and not waiting very long, because it is harder on you after aging. Also, (embarrassing), I have always had so mucus. Maybe I should be on zyrtec each day after surgury(?) Allergic to alittle bit of everythingng since working at dept store w/ mostly imported clothes. Would you pass on the surgury if it were you? Is there some soft plastic impliment w/ stop on end that can be inserted into nostril to keep it open at night??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit very specific.
-Incision does not increase the chance of cancer.
- you have to have a perfect diagnosis by doing CT. Scan of the nose and sinuses. This will guide you whether surgery will help you or not.
- There are appliances to be used to reduce the obstructions. Visit Sleep Apnoea lab for study and see if they will help.
- you may not need much of antihistamine as reason of surgery.
- you have to stop smoking and keep away from allergies, this is fundamental of good treatment.
