How To Cure A Pus Pocket On Right Side Of The Throat?
i went to the dr. yesterday for sore throat, body aches. was told it was not strep but viral infection. she did notice a pus pocket on the right side of my throat, I was prescribed antibiotics (Z-pack) for 5 days. My dr told me to gargle with salt / warm water. My question is should I try to remove the pus pocket myself with a q-tip, as that is what I have been reading online that several people remove the pus pocket with q-tip.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The pus pocket that you are talking about seems to be most probably due to infection leading to abscess formation. No, you should not lance it as it can get infected due to lancing. Taking antibiotics and doing warm saline gargles will help in its healing and warm saline gargles will help it to drain and gradually shrink in size. So my suggestion is to take antibiotics and pain killers and do warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash gargles. Also avoid hard and spicy foods to avoid it from being further painful. Review with your doctor after 5 days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
