i want to know if there are scientific methods available to detect the cause of issue : be in erectile dysfuntion or impotence,
OR,
can this be detected on basis of trial and error mechanism only by either asking questions to the patient and trying different medicines if that makes a difference ?

Erectile Dysfunction and Impotence are one and the same that signify one not getting erection to have penetrative intra vaginal sex .
The cause of Ed can be
1) Psychogenic where no organic cause can be detected on various tests carried out during investigations .
2) Organic cause where there is inadequate blood flow to erectile tissue of penis leading to Ed .
To ind out the cause of Ed one needs to undergo thorough clinical examination by a qualified Physician and get following tests done to establish cause of ED.
1) Haemogram
2) Blood sugar levels tp rule out Diabetes
3) Thyroid hormone assessment
4) Color Doppler Ultrasound Scanning of Penis This is important test to rule out vascular insufficiency as a cause of ED.
The modality of treatment depends upon the cause of ED and results of these tests .
