How To Confirm A Malignant Growth?

I had a mammogram which showed something suspicious. I was called back for a second one and an ultrasound which confirmed that there is something there. I'm worried that it will be malignant. Is a biopsy the only way to determine this and could it be a benign growth?

Hello
thanks for using health care magic

Most breast nodules are benign and do not have any real consequences.
However, though few, malignant nodules do exist and early diagnosis is the key to successful treatment.

With suspicion of a breast cancer, every thing has to be done to rule it out or to confirm it early enough.

True, there are other things, signs/symptoms that could be more indicative of malignant growth such as
-altered nipples
-nipple discharges
-swollen lymph nodes in the armpit
-weight loss
-orange back appearance of the breast etc.
But by the time such signs/symptoms become more apparent, if the nodule was cancerous, it would have go miles. For breast cancer to become a palpable nodule of about 1cm, it takes over 8 years, thus you can imagine how long it could have develop before diagnosis.

Stick with your doctor and let the detail of the breast nodule be obtained.

Wishing you good health
