Welcome to Health care magic.

There is disc in between the vertebrae which functions as shock-absorber effect, helps in weight bearing, and disc contains good amount of water - as a parer of degenerative changes when this hydration is lost, the disc gets slips / herniates/ bulge - most commonly posteriorly.

In your friend case there is bulge of the disc noted at the level of C4-5,C5-6 level causing the mass effect on the thecalsac ( spinal chord ) affecting the anterior epidural space.

Disc desiccation - loss of hydration noted at different levels. There loss of normal curvature of the spine due to the pain / tingling caused by nerve / chord compression and the muscle gets stiff and spine looses its normal curvature.

Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
