How Should Recurrent Bronchitis With Cold Be Treated?

Hi my name is Michelle. I developed bronchitis at the end of August and into September. I went to the doctors and they gave me antibiotics which did not fully help. I developed a cold and then bronchitis again shortly after. So I went back to the doctors and again they gave me antibiotics which again did not help. I went back a third time last month and they gave me a third stronger antibiotic which seemed to be working. I developed a cold again shortly after and now bronchitis again. Should I be worried? Is a chest x-ray my next option?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you should definitely be concerned for this repeated bronchitis.
Best treatment for bronchitis is inhaled treatment. Since you are not taking inhaled treatment, you are not improving completely.
In my opinion, you should definitely consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system, chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
You will need inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
