Please doctor, I went for transvaginal scan and the report showed in my uterus is that I have a normal size empty uterus measuring 44×36mm in length and width respectively with homogeneous echo pattern. The endometrial plate measures 7mm in thickness. And the cervix is normal. And in my Ovary, Both Ovary are seen, the right measuring 28×18×25mm and the left measures 30×16×24mm in length, width and height respectively and with rudimentary follicles. Pouch of Douglas, There is significant pelvic fluid collection with a maximum depth of 23mm indicative of pelvic inflammatory disease. Please doctor how serious is my ailment, and can I be able to conceive after treatment, for I have been sexually active for long and have never taken in, can I ever take in?

Hi,

First of all, do not panic.

Presence of fluid in the pelvis can be due to various reasons. You need to correlate with your clinical picture.

If you are getting a foul-smelling vaginal discharge, lower abdominal pain and pain during or after intercourse then you can suspect pelvic infection.

Please get gynecologic examination including per speculum and per vaginal examination is done. This will help to confirm and or rule out pelvic infection.

A course of broad-spectrum antibiotics like Doxycycline is advisable.

Before going ahead to get pregnant, please start on vitamin B12 and folic acid supplementation. This helps to prevent various complications during conception and pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar,
