How Long Will It Take To Get The Normal Sperm Count After Stopping Fluoxetine Tablet?
My husband and i have 4 children. We recently decided to have another but my husband has been on 20mg fluoxetine for the past 6 months. Research has told me that it can dramatically reduce sperm count. If medication is stopped, how long will it take for a normal sperm count to resume?

The studies so far conducted on use of fluoxetine for a long time,show its negative effect on sexual activity, fertility as well as parameters related to sperm count and motility. However, these effects have been mostly studied on patients,who were taking fluoxetine for a long period of more than 2 years.
In your case, as your husband has been taking it for 6 months only, therefore it is a possibility, that he may have minimal / nil effect on his sperm parameters. Re assuring to you, that this effect is mostly reversible after discontinuation of this drug, even in long term users of 10 or more years. Usually it takes up to 2 months for the return of these parameters to normal. Hence, in my opinion, there seems no reason for you to be worried about this.
