How Long Should I Take Warfarin After PE Surgery With Homocysteine Anemia?
I had a PE after a major surgery. I have been on warfarin for 9 months. My hematologist wont let me go off because in a series of blood tests he discovered I have homocysteine anemia. I have been on folic acid and that brought the level down to a normal range. He is still very reluctant to take me off warfarin. Should I expect to be on warfarin for the rest of my lif?
I am so sorry to hear about this PE you suffered. We generally expect blood thinners to be discontinued after 6months if the cause of a PE was known and not permanent. This applies to you following the information you have provided. Please, ask your hematologist why he would not consider taking you off? maybe he has more reasons that he has not communicated to you and I cannot independently make that call or recommend that you go off at this time.
Ii hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be. Thanks for using our services.
