How Long Should I Keep Taking Esperal As I Am Addicted Gambler And Went To Rehab Also ?

Hi there, i have been taking esperal for the past 3 years almost, i am addicted gambler, i went to rehab 3 years ago and finished successfully. I never had any drinking problem,even my doctor at the time told me that i am not alcoholic but he still prescribed me to take espreal, now my question is please how long do i have to take the medical yet. For the past 3 years i had no dreams considering drinking or similar. Thank you in advance

Hi,

You are right that Esperal (disulfiram) is used for alcohol dependence. However, there have been a few reports of its successful use in pathological gambling. It is probably on the basis of these reports that you were prescribed Esperal. Now that you have been well for three years, the decision to stop/reduce dose of Esperal should be taken jointly by you and your doctor. There are no specific guidelines for the same.
