Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I just got out of a treatment center for alcohol addiction, was given a medical discharge after only a week of treatment. I was given Gabapentin 300mg cap and am not sure what it is treating, and if I should stop taking it now. I am assuming it is for anxiety and was taking it twice a day. Thank-you, Candace R
I would like to tell you that since you have mentioned that you are recovering from alcohol addiction, the gabapentin has been prescribed for you to deal with the alcohol withdrawal symptoms. It will help you to curb the craving for alcohol. You should not stop it without the advice of your physician. It can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms like anxiety and restlessness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
