Hello, and I hope I can help you today. Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the pelvis that cannot be removed completely by surgery. The reason is is that endometriosis implants can be microscopic, which is why ultimately most women are treated with hormones to suppress their menstrual cycle for 3 to 6 months after endometriosis surgery. This helps to prevent recurrence of cysts and scarring within your pelvis which may increase your chance of conceiving. However, while you are on the Leuprolide (LUpron) injection, you will not menstruate regularly and is unlikely that you will become pregnant. Your greatest chance of pregnancy is in the first six months after stopping the medication. Because you only 32 years old, I would recommend doing a full six months of Lupron injections before trying to conceive again. So again to clarify, you do not need Lupron because you had any complications from your surgery, rather the issue is that Lupron reduces your risk of recurrence of endometriosis after surgery, which will help to maximize your chance of conceiving later. So there is no reason why you and your husband cannot have unprotected intercourse while you on the Lupron treatment, however the goal of the treatment is to reduce the inflammation your pelvis after the surgery to help you heal and also to reset your hormones so when you go off the Lupron you will be in the best shape to conceive.
