How Long Does It Take For Olmetec To Lower Blood Pressure?

I have just started on olmesartan/olmetec. Been on the medication for 2 weeks today. I am also on caduet ( 5/20mg) and notan ( 1 tablet per day). I was on 80mg micardis but my BP was 150/80 so my doctor swapped me to olmesartan. After a week my BP was 170/90 so no improvement on the olmesartan. So my doctor 1 week ago added a diuretic but I had my BP tested today and the BP is still 168/80. I have read that olmesartan can take up to 2 weeks to have any effect but the 2 weeks are up and no noticeable change. My intention is to keep taking the medication for another 1 to 2 weeks and if no change go back and see my doctor. Any comment on how long it takes for olmetec to work? And shouldn t the diuretic have had some effect by now? Or should i be looking at other medications because the olmetec doesn t seem to work for me?

I understand your query and concern.
Uncontrolled hypertension takes minimum of 4-6 weeks to be stabilized.Olmatec even takes 4-6 weeks to act normally and to keep your blood pressure under control.So do not worry.All you need to do is avoid stress ad anxiety.Reduce the intake of salt to less than 6 gm/day.Take your drugs as suggested by your doctor regularly without fail. Monitor your blood pressure and heart rate regularly.Get investigations like ECG,2 dimensional echocardiography,lipid profile ,complete blood counts,blood sugars as a part of routine screening of your heart.Consult your cardiologist for expert management.
