How Long Does Differin Take To Start Working?

Hi, I just started Differin .3 gel and I am using it nightly. I know there is supposed to be an initial breakout, but I was wondering how long should this last? I do not have bad acne, just little whiteheads if anything. I am starting to get an initial breakout I believe. I can t stand it. I want to know how long this usually lasts and how long does it typically take for Differin to start working? Thank you!

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Differin is Adapalene, which is a topical retinoid. The main action of adapalene is increasing the turn over of epidermal cells. It thereby acts as a comedolytic and keratolytic.

Initial flare is expected and is due to the surfacing of the previously unseen lesions(deeper lesions). The flare usually lasts for 2-4 weeks. It is important to continue with the medication during the flare as well.

After 2-4 weeks the flare usually subsides and the lesions/comedones/white heads would become progressively less in size and number.

regards
