How Long Do Broken Tibia And Fibula Bones Take To Heal?

Hi, I broke my tibia and fibula 3.5 weeks ago but I did not need surgery. I have been wearing a walking boot with crutches for the past 3 and a half weeks (i am not allowed to put weight on my foot). Today I took a step with no crutches and I could walk fine with a little pain, does this mean I can walk without crutches?

Hi, thank you for asking the question, Weight bearing bones like tibia needs rest when it is injured .And you are getting pain while walking means injury is not healed properly. If you repeat the same thing healing will be delayed and some times re surgery is needed. You should follow the doctors advise properly. Usually the upper limb injuries need 6 weeks rest and lower limb weight bearing bones need 12 weeks rest. Its better to walk with crutches. Please consult your doctor. If a patient comes to my clinic i would have advised the same.
