How Long Can I Expect To See Elevated Levels Of Blood Sugar Due To Epidural Injection?

Hi Doctor, I am a type 2 diabetic and manage it by diet and pills (Glipizide ER, Metformin and Invokana. This cocktail works well. My question is this: I ve recently (Jan. 28th, 2014) received an epidural injection for a pinched nerve in my neck. How long can I expect to see elevated levels of blood sugar due to the steroid that was injected? thanks Bob

Hi thanks for using HCM.

Based on the type of steroid injected, we can tell the duration of action. Usually the one time local injection has very less effect on sugar level.

But sugar level may vary due to stressor or pain.So sugar level should be maintained with diet and drugs.

Hope this information helps you.
Regards
