How Is Herpes Transmitted And What Are The Symptoms?

Well I ve been with my boyfriend for three years now. Lately we ve been having more sex than normal because of trying new things to spice things up because I used to complain that we didn t have sex enough. We stopped using condoms after I moved in with him because I was on birth control and neither of us were ever tested positive for a disease. Well about a week ago I noticed a spot on the base of his penis, he said it had a white crust on it. He said he picked off the white crust. We both just assumed that it was nothing because he said it didn t hurt or anything. Well we proceed with both oral and regular sex. Now, a week later I have a spot on my lip. I m not sure if it s a cold sore or not, I ve never had one. And at first I just assumed it was a zit, it s right on the bottom of my bottom lip where I ve had outbreaks before plus I m on my period and have gotten a few other zits on other areas of my face from that. I didn t notice it until I looked in the mirror at it. It wasn t sore and I didn t get any of the symptoms that supposedly show up with herpes/cold sores. It hasn t popped open and caused a crust yet and it didn t hurt at all until I started picking at it trying to figure out what it was. When I remembered what happened with my boyfriend I wondered if perhaps one of us gave the other herpes? I m absolutely certain he s never cheated on me and I haven t cheated on him. And we were both single for almost two years before we met each other. I ve heard that you can also get herpes from touching things people with herpes have touched and not washed their hands after touching the affected area, or kissing a family member with it or anything like that. Is it possible that one of us got it this way without knowing and gave it to the other? I haven t had any outbreaks anywhere else, just my lip which makes me want to believe it isn t herpes and I m just paranoid. But I really want to know if maybe we should get tested? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Herpes simplex or cold sore manifested with tiny grouped vesicles around mouth or nasal opening. Vesicles are nothing but tiny bumps containing clear fluid. These vesicles will go for tiny grouped ulcers which will heal within a weeks time usually with or without treatment as they are self limiting. This condition is associated with pain usually.
Yours may also be ordinary pimples (Acne).
It is better to consult a Dermatologist and get examined before going for any test or treatment.
Wish you a speedy recovery.
