How Is A Group B Streptococcus Screening Test Done?

Hi I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my doctor tested me for gbs testing with swab just in front of my vagina. However I hear from a friend nurse and other people that they should stick the swab inside you and around your butt area. I'm not sure I trust I'm getting the best treatment with my doctor. Can someone advise if he did it right and if the way he did it is enough to get an accurate test? Also is too late to change OBYgen now?

Hello,

GBS testing (group B streptococcus) done through a sterile swab taking material from both vagina and rectum (inside butt area). Samples take and they are sent to culture. If isolates seen the doctor will give you an antibiotic course to prevent complications in the delivering baby. Your doctor has to take from two sites, one from the vagina and other from the lower rectum. Next time if you meet your doctor ask him whether he takes from both sides or not. Don't worry. Everything will go alright.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

In my opinion for streptococcus testing, we need to take vaginal swab only. It has to be near in a vagina and cervical region. Not in butt area because that has no significance. It's better to follow up with the same doctor with his or her guidance you have reached till 35 weeks without complication and also if you want to change it, doctor, you can do that anytime.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
