How Is EDD Calculated Based On LMP?

I am confused on how doctors get the due dates. Something happened once on November 17th, 2009 and I was told that it takes a couple of days to concieve. My LMP was November 7thth, 2009 and I was told my due date should be August 14, 2010. I am confused because I thought that I should be pregnan for 9 monthsand that would be August 17th, 2010. Can you please help me? Is this correct?

Hi,
I understand your problem.
Calculation of expected date of pregnancy is done for estimation of approximate date of delivery. It helps by making would be parents to be alert & ready for the important event in their life.
It is calculated by addition of 9 months & 7 days to the first day of last menstrual cycle.
Still there are variations in menstrual cycles, ovulation days & actual fertilization in each conception. so there can be an error of + or - & days in given EDD.
Thanks.
