Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.
The cause of lime green coloured stool might be:
Decreased Bowel Transit Time:
Green bile, after excretion from the liver into duodenum(
small intestine), slowly changes to yellow, and then to brown color due to chemical changes performed by normal intestinal bacteria and enzymes. When the bowel content flows through the intestine fast, original bile color does not change, resulting in green or yellow stool. Causes of decreased bowel transit time include:
Diarrhea – loose bowel movements; there are several causes of loose bowel movements, including food poisoning,Viral infection, etc
GERD (Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease)-Steroid may cause increased acid formation in stomach.I would recommend to take Antacid(like
Pantoprazole) along with Steroids.
Impaired Bile Re-absorption in the Small Intestine:
Bile salts are absorbed into blood mainly from last part of small intestine (
terminal ileum). Causes of impaired bile re-absorption are:
Inflammation of the small intestine due to food poisoning or viral/bacterial infection.
The burning is because your electrolytes are off in your body and with diarrhea you get what is called
Metabolic Acidosis. The acid is what causes the burning. It sounds like you might be suffering from inflammation in Gastrointestinal tract and it should subside in 24-48 hours.
If the symptoms last longer than 48 hours or you start vomiting along with it you need to see your doctor.
In the treatment perspective - the main objective is to maintain adequate rehydration and electrolyte supplementation. This can be achieved with an oral rehydration solution (ORS) .
Oral rehydration is achieved by administering clear liquids and sodium-containing and glucose-containing solutions.
A simple ORS solution may be composed of 1 level teaspoon of salt and 4 heaping teaspoons of sugar added in to 1 liter of boiled/packaged mineral water.
Medicines like Antisecretory agents, such as
bismuth subsalicylate (
Pepto-Bismol), and
Loperamide (Imodium) ( It increases the intestinal absorption of electrolytes and water and decreases intestinal motility and secretion) may be useful.
During episodes of acute diarrhea, patients often develop an acquired disaccharidase deficiency due to washout of the brush-border enzymes. For this reason, avoiding milk, dairy products, and other lactose-containing foods is advisable. Strict personal hygiene should be practiced during the illness.
I hope this answers your query.Get well soon.
