I was told I have an eardrum that disintegrated. In Febrary before taking an internation trip I had a temporary tube put in to help with airplane depressurization (it was previously quite painful). After the tube went in I noticed almost immediately a minor hearing loss. After returning home I was able to use a hearing aid to help with the hearing loss in that ear for a while. But after a few weeks it didn t help anymore, even at maximum volume. When I had my ears checked the specialist said that eardrum had essentially disintegrated. There was no sign of infection in that ear at any time. Is there any known explanation for how an eardrum can disintegrate?
In case of middle ear infection or chronic negative pressure in middle ear causes retracted tympanic membrane which may lead cholesteatoma. In otosclerosis also may cause changes in tympanic membrane. What exact cause we don't know. Please contact with ENT specialist he will examine for the type of hearing loss and treat you accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
