How Do We Count The Weeks Of Pregnancy From The Last Day Of Menstruation Or From The Day Of Conception?

Hi there! I found out about a week ago that I am pregnant. I'm just a bit confused as to how far along I am. The first day of my last period was Oct. 31st and my due date is Aug.7th. The bump app has me tracked out at 5 weeks and 5 days as of today. Do they count the weeks from the first day of your last period or from the day of conception? I'm assuming I conceived sometime around Nov 13-16 so that would put me at 3 weeks and 5 days from conception not the 5 weeks and 5 days that the app has. I'm just a bit confused. How many weeks am I and how do they count it? Any help would be appreciated! TIA

Hi DEAR.Whenever we talk about pregnency we use two terms i.e. LMP & EDD.LMP means the date of your last missed period and EDD is your expected date of delivery. In your case your LMP is nov 30th.so to calculate your EDD we will add 9 months and 7 days in your LMP &that comes Aug.7th.We can only know about the exact weeks of pregnency by doing an ultrasound examination.approximately you are 3 to 4 weeks pregnent and if you need to know the exact period then go for an ultrasound.wish you great health.
