How Can You Treat Burning Sensation In The Tongue And Dryness In The Eyes In A 62-year-old?

hi .,I am a 62 yo female, I recently began having a dry mouth and eyes. My tongue is red and burns. Nothing seems to help .I am type II diabetic that is controlled. I have talked to my Dr. about this and she thinks it could be one of my medications .I have tried taking myself off of my meds and nothing helps. At times my tongue hurts so bad I can't swallow. could you please give me an opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand you concern.

The symptoms can be related to a fungal infection which is very common in patients with diabetes.

I suggest to use gels for topical use such as Daktarin gel.

I also recommend to drink liquids and stay hydrated.

For the dryness in the eyes you can use artificial tears.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
