How Can Vaginal Spotting While On Depo Be Managed?

Hi, I ve recently been put on the depo injection. I started it in February and was spotting then for around 2 weeks after the first month. But then I stopped bleeding and was fine. However since I had the injection in May I have now been spotting for the past 3 weeks. This is obviously not ideal so I was just wondering if there is any way to sort out this problem as it s causing me difficulties.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Spotting following Depo shot is very common. Even though uncomfortable, it is nothing to be worried about. The occurrence of spotting will reduce with time. If the problem is persistent, you can switch from Depo shots to combined oral contraceptives to regularize bleeding.

Dr. Lekshmi
