Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just find out that I have a hernia, It is located near my belly button. I comes out every now and then and sometimes I feel a little pain. I just wondering about surgery and the after affects and how long I need to stay out of work to recovery. My primary doctor suggested that I contact a general surgeon. Is there a specific doctor that specialisizes in hernia surgery.
Hello, Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic! I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns. Surgery is the only treatment for hernia. Umbilical hernia is a minor condition and can be easily corrected by a general surgeon. It is a minor procedure and no need to worry in it. You can consult a good general surgeon or a laparoscopic surgeon in case you are opting for a laparoscopic(key hole) approach which is much expensive than general surgery. Wishing you good health. regards dr Shinas
