How Can Teething Causing Fever, Chills And Crying Be Treated?

My 1-year-old is is teething, and along with it she gets fever and chills. Does teething cause this, or does teething lower resistence and cause her to get sick? She wake up at night crying and chewing on her blanket. What should I do?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Have you taken her temperature? Although teething occasionally rises body temperature a bit, true fever is unlikely.

If she do not have any other symptoms, we need not worry. Probably this is a viral fever and she will be alright in 3-4 days. Till then give her acetaminophen 3-4 times a day.

If fever persists beyond 3-4 days, fresh symptoms appear, or she becomes lethargic/not feeding, take her to pediatrician for further evaluation and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
