Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Pain And Inflammation Around The Navel Be Treated?
I had laproscopic inigual hernia operation this morning. After taking prescribed pain medication, pain does not go away (I think the pain is related to my bloated stomach, probably from all the gas I have and cannot get rid of). Another concern is, although my incisions appear fine, my belly button is red and bruised-looking with a red streak coming from it. It is too late to call my doctor. Can you please answer me as soon as possible.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query, Your skin has been stitched by subcutaneous stitches, cleaned & dressed with liquid glue film contain antibiotic.... so unless you had exerted much to disturb the stitches... the symptoms of the redness around umbilicus is normal inflammatory reaction. If it is looking fine.. don't worry about it. All the symptoms are usually mild to moderate & vanish over period or 8-10 days, , The distension of abdomen is partly due to air insufflation in peritoneum & swollen intestines during the procedure. Both of them will go over few days gradually. The pain medicine would start acing within 4 days. In case it is too much to bear with, call your doctor for strong pain medicine. Thanks
