Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 68 yr old woman W/ osteoporosis which I have had for 15 years if not more. I smoke- although I try over & over to quit. I am 5ft- 108lbs. I am petite / and very fine boned. I have a 1x a year shot of reclast. This is my 4th or fifth year of reclast. Do you suggest I have a dexa every two years or every year? The receptionist in my doctors office decided every 2 years is enough & the hospital where I am to have it wants a referral even though I have Medicare. I called Medicare who told me that I did not need a referral. So this is how Cape Cod medical system is treating their elderly. How much do I self advocate?... Or just go into Boston. Also, at what pt. should I get aQCT instead of a Dexa if any? Thank you. Susan Shore
Hello Welcome to Ask a Doctor service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. For the osteoporosis nothing can be done because it is the physiological condition happening with the age and it is not the pure disease condition, I would advise not to try any steroid but changing the life style may helps a lot with balance diet, aerobic exercise, yoga session according to age and for that you can consult the best yoga center these will helps you a lot instead of taking some medicines. Hope I have answered your query, let me know for further assistance.
