I ve had a goiter for years. I took thyroid medication for a lot of years but one doctor said I didn t need it anymore. Been off it for years. I am 81 years old. All my testing has only been the T 3 and T 4. I wonder if I should have a better line of testing. I tool my temp for a week it was in the range that said maybe should have better test done. It is hard to get my Dr. to do the other test. Thank you for your input. Carol Leeper I live in Alaska

Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:

1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [Endocrinologist] and to know present status you need few investigations like [T3, T4, TSH, TPO antibodies, USG and thyroid scan].

2) Treatment depends upon clinical findings as per your clinical history only.

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this if it is due to diet:

- Get enough iodine. To ensure that you get enough iodine, use iodized salt or eat seafood or seaweed about twice a week.

- Shrimp and other shellfish are particularly high in iodine. If you live near the coast, locally grown fruits and vegetables are likely to contain some iodine, too, as are cow's milk and yogurt.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
