How Can Elevated Prolactin Levels Be Treated?

My prolactin levels were 57 to a 67 my endocrinologist did a MRI found no tumor he started me on cabergoline 0.5 mg 2 times a week my levels dropped to a 23.3 then he rechecked my levels they stayed the same so he told me to take two whole 0.5 mg twice a week not half tablets I go in a week after a month to have them rechecked again. I am trying to find a diet and look for foods to eat that will benefit me and lower my levels .This all started because my breast became painful a year ago my breast care doctor did blood test and discovered I had prolactin levels my breast tenderness has decreased for me so far. I am 41 years old I have had two hysterectomys in 2011 my uturus and cervix removed due to fibroids and a year and half ago my ovaries removed due to adhesions that attached to my ovaries causing my ovaries to attach to my bowels and bladder I am menopausal my hot flashes are not that bad and are not bothering me can me being diagnosed with hyperprolactimia be a part of my surgical menopause?

Hello. Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic. Yes prolactin levels can increase after hysterectomy. In hyperprolactinemia it is important to rule out a pituitary adenoma. Because though benign it can cause visual field defects due to pressure on optic nerve. In some cases occasional hyperplasia of prolactin secreting cells of pituitary is there which might not be detected on mri CT because the gland is not enlarged. Also certain drugs could cause hyperprolactinemia like antihypertensives. In other cases no cause is found and it is idiopathic. Treatment involves either excision of any tumor if found on CT. Or drug treatment with cabergoline. Hope I helped. Thanks.
