How Can Ear Infection Along With Low Grade Fever Be Treated?

4 days ago I was diagnosed with an ear infection probably caused by the cold virus. I was prescribed amoxicillan but started fearing that my immune system is being affected by too many antibiotics (4 months ago throat infection 2 weeks on antibiotics and 8 months ago antibiotics for urinary infe tion). Not feeling any better yet, low grade fever tonight. Should I give it a few more days or go ahead and take the antibiotics?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Brief Answer:
Yes, you should take antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! thank you for your query, I understand that you are anxious of the possible side effects of the antibiotics that you have previously took, however, most ear infections are probably caused by a bacteria that's why you should take an antibiotic as these may possibly lead to further complications if not treated well. The interval(4 and 8 months ago) of your antibiotic use is acceptable. Rest assure that antibiotics do not weaken your immune system. It is the weak immune that causes you to be susceptible to bacterial infection hence leading to the use of antibiotics. I suggest you to strengthen your immune system by eating a well balanced diet, have enough rest and sleep, exercise regularly and drink plenty of water.

I hope you this helps, a feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank you and God bless!
