How Can Dry Cough And Chest Pain Be Treated?

Hi, I have had a dry cough/tickle in my throat for over 2 weeks and now my right side of my chest is hurting. The clinic did a chest X-ray but stated it was clear and they thought it was a start of bronchitis and put me on a Z pack. Any thoughts on getting a second opinion?

Hello there,
thank you for your query on healthcare magic.
From your symptoms, it seems to be a case of dry cough associated with post nasal drip. You post likely got a cold a few weeks back which lead to sinus congestion. The excess mucous in your sinuses is dripping down the back of your throat causing the tickle and dry cough.
Moreever, this can cause inflammation of the pharynx leading to pharyngitis.
You probably do not have bronchitis yet and the. heat pain could be muscle pain from constant coughing, given that your chest x ray is clear.
A z pack prescribed by your doctor is okay to take however, you can also try inhaling steam with menthol a few times a day to clear up the post nasal drip.I usually prescribe an anti histamine like cetrizine once a day for cases like this before starting an antibiotic if there is no fever. You can ask your healthcare provider for that.
If symptoms do not improve with the steam inhalation, drinking lukewarm water mixed with honey and lime, and antihistamine, in 2 days or if symptoms worsen, start the z pack.
Hope this helps with your situation.
Thank you for dropping by healthcare magic.
