How Can Diabetic Patients Come Off Statins After Controlling Their Triglyceride Levels?

Greetings I am an insulin dependent diabetic patient on bolus regime, I had been on 20mg atorvostatin in uk, now due to high triglycerides at 950, I was prescribed Rosuvas F20 and ecosprin 75. After 2 months my tryglycirides are normal, and I wish to come off the statins....How do I go about it....Ive improved my diet and doing more exercise. Your advice will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi,

Statins are not very effective for triglycerides and fibrates like Fenofibrate are the drugs generally used for very high triglycerides. They are elevated in diabetics, but levels that high are due to a genetic condition. Furthermore, they can directly cause pancreatitis. But with fibrates, they will be fine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
