How Can Coughing, Breathlessness And Retching Be Treated?

I ve been coughing for over 4 weeks... went to local GP 2 weeks ago, he said it was viral, so no treatment as such. I m not so bad during the day, but my first coughing fit of the morning involves me gasping for breath and retching. Similar happens later in the evening (it s quite scary, I ve freaked my kids out on a number of occasions!

HI

Thanks for posting your query.

Cough persisting for 4 weeks is unlikely to be Viral. It is either a bacterial infection or an allergic problem.

This has to be differentiated as treatment is entirely different between bacterial infection and Allergy.

You need to get a test called Throat swab Culture sensitivity which will detect if there is any bacterial infection or not . Kindly get this test and revert back .

Hope you find this information useful .

Any clarification feel free to ask .

Regards.
