Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Cough can be caused by different agents, viral infections are very common if the cough is only for a few days. If she does not have fever and is feeling active, energetic and eating well than you can try the Nyquil but be aware that it contains paracetamol, Dextrometophan for cough and an antihistamine (in case you are using similar medications). Delsym contains Dextrpmetophan and can be given for cough if it dry cough. If she has fever or is tired or not eating well she will need a visit with the doctor to rule out pneumonia.
If the cough is for weeks than other conditions can be considered like cough due to Lisinopril (it is a possible side effect of Lisinopril), allergic rhinitis or acid reflux from the stomach. She can try antacids to help with reflux (Omeprazole is a good option also), in case she feels heartburn or burping with the cough.
If she has sneezing, itchy nose or signs or allergic rhinitis she can try Loratadine at night to help with it.
If no improvement or any worsening she will need to see a doctor to listen to her lungs.
I hope this is helpful and answers to your question but please feel free to let us know of any concerns you might have.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
