How Can Chronic Vaginal Yeast Infection Causing Chunky White Discharge Be Treated?

I ve had a yeast infection for four years. I was 14 when I first got it, but I never understood what the irritation and discharge meant and silently endured it because I was embarrassed to tell my mother. The harsh symptoms lessened over time but there was always been a burning irritation and white chunky discharge. Not that I am 17, I finally embarrassingly realize it is a yeast infection, and I have gone to the gynecologist four times, and they have always prescribed me antibiotics that did not work. The first time I went they gave me Diflucan, the second time they gave me three prescriptions for Diflucan, the third time they have me a one week worth of antiobiotics, to take two a day, and another three diflucan and the fourth visit was two weeks worth of antibiotics and still nothing worked. It is like i am immune to antibiotics. I wasted hundreds of dollars to recieve no change. I took it upon myself to get monistat, no change, one month of probiotics , no change and boric acid suppositories, NO CHANGE. I am so frustrated and depressed, my discharge is so heavy and chunky and my burning and itchiness will not go away. Apart for the fact that my discharge is so heavy my vulva still feels so dry and is incredibly swollen. I have no idea what I should do, I do not want to live like this

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello! Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

At this point, you need a swab of the discharge sent to the lab. Yeast is a fungi and you have been correctly using anti fungal medication but there has been minimal response. This may indicate that there is a either another infection along with the yeast or there is a variant of the type of fungi that normally causes yeast infection. A swab needs to be sent to the lab so that the exact fungi and/or bacteria causing the infection can be identified. I hope this helps.

Hope this clarifies your concerns. Thank you for the query.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
