How Can Chronic Cough Along With Vomiting And Diarrhea Be Treated?

My mother in her late 60s has had a bad cough several days and began taking Lucinda yesterday morning. This morning she vomited and had a bit of diarrhea. This afternoon while laughing quite hard a blood vessel began to protrude from her left forehead and is somewhat tender and pulsation on and off. Should this be urgently looked at.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The bad cough for several days can be related to a respiratory infection that if she has no fever and is active (energetic and not fatigued) and eating well very likely will improve in 3-4 days. Meanwhile she needs to drink plenty of fluids, rest and may take carbocystein cough syrup to loosen the secretions and easily bring them out. If she has fever or is short of breath or is fatigued and not eating well she needs to see her doctor to examine her lungs and rule out lung infection (pneumonia).

The diarrhea and the vomiting might be caused by the same virus that is causing the cough, she needs to take fluids enough so she does not get dehydrated and if the vomits are bad she needs to see a doctor in this case as well because of the risk of loosing a lot of fluids.

As for the tender vessel that is protruding in her forehead it is important to rule out temporal arteritis which is an inflammation of the vessels that feed the eye and pose risk for eye problems. A doctor should examine her and make sure it is temporal arteritis or not as if it is temporal arteritis she needs urgent treatment with steroids to reduce inflammation and save the vision in that eye.

So to conclude i would say that she will need to be soon by a doctor soon to be able to be examined and determine the cause of the forehead vessel symptoms and meanwhile the doctor can check her lungs as well and make sure all is fine.

Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
