Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I have had issues with toiletting recently.. constantly feels constipated but when I do manage to go for a poo, in the politest way to put it.. some times there is mucus that smells.like chlorine or maybe even semen like smell.. worried about the prostate as the gents in my dads side have prostate problems
Well, constipation can occur due to a number of causes like lack of physical activity or sedantary lifestyle, stress, poor eating habits or lack of regular eating routine and lack of fibres in diet, side effects of certain medications if you take any, irritable bowel disease etc.. As far as prostrate gland is concerned, if it is enlarged then the urination is first effected.. So my suggestion is to first of all correct your lifestyle by doing regular workout and walking, eat plenty of fibres like fruits and green leafy vegetables, sprouts and other fibre forms.. You should drink plenty of water and walk after meals.. Fix a time and try to sit in your toilet daily at the same time so that you can develop a habit of clearing your bowel on daily basis.. If still there is no improvement in around 15 days then you should consult an Emergency room and get checked and stool softeners can be advised..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
