How Can Blood Clots In The Heart Be Prevented?

Hi i received electrical cardioversion after passing out during a music festival i have had no previous heart problems this was due to drug and alcohol abuse after not eating or drinking water for 20 hours. After the procedure I was not informed of what had happened or given any medication. After researching online it seems i should have been advised to take anti coagulants to minimise risk of blood clots however it has been 4 days and no problems. Is my risk of blood clots high?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

As per your description you had suffered sudden heart block or Severe Myocardial infarction. However without investigations like ECG, angiography or echocardiogram proper diagnosis can not be done.
If any of above condition is there then you need to take anticoagulant medications.

Risk of second attack depends on the level of blockage of coronary artery so don't get relaxed if you are not having any symptoms over 4 days.

I advice you consul cardiologist for above mentioned investigations.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards
Dr. Hiren
