How Can An Eating Disorder Be Treated?

Hi. I m 17 and 5 3 and 108 pounds and I have a couple questions. Firstly, I used to be 120 lbs but through skipping meals, I lost 13 pounds and now i m 107. However, all my clothes still fit the same I literally look pretty much exactly the same. Is that normal?Also...sometimes after skipping consecutive meals I get really hungry and eat too much so I get nauseous and I keep trying to force myself to vomit but I can t do it. No matter how many times I trigger my gag reflex with my finger or whatever, nothing comes up. How can I make myself throw up effectively? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

You have mentioned that you are trying hard to lose weight and are also engaging in unhealthy means of weight reduction like startving and inducing vomiting. You have also said that sometimes, you eat too much till you feel nauseated, which could be indicative of bingeing. All these point out that you may be having an eating disorder, such as Bulimia. Also, this age group of late teens is when many eating disorders start.

I would like you to understand that inducing vomiting to lose weight is a very unhealthy thing and can have a lot of advverse effects on your health. Also, if you do not seek help early, then this could progress into a full blown eating disorder, which may be more difficult to control. So, I would strongly recommend you to seek professional help for your eating problems. You need to consult a psychiatrist for a detailed evaluation and management of your problems.

Wish you all the best.
