How Can Acute Bronchitis Be Treated?

I was diagnosed 17 days ago with acute bronchitis. I was prescribed a Z-PAC, took it, started feeling better, but I still have the cough!! Debating on going to the dr, thinking I might have walking pneumonia! I don t really have any of the symptoms except for the cough!? I don t know what to do! My age is 74. I m normally pretty healthy. Also have a-fib, with no incidents for 7 1/2 years!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

According to history you have been treated the Bronchitis do with the antibiotic course. Now you are having complain of chronic cough so kindly let me know whether it is dry or wet cough. For any chronic cough chest X-ray should be done to rule out pneumonia but it might be post Bronchitis cough also. If it is dry cough and chest x ray is normal then dextromethorphan containing syrup can be prescribed. Take one teaspoon turmeric powder with milk daily and drink lots of water. Consult pulmonologist for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
